As basketball season draws ever closer, we are already at the end of regular season football. I already miss the drumlines. Here are the latest standings in our end of the Commonwealth (I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I like how almost everything in Kentucky is numbered West to East, so that all our football districts are District 1). Teams that are going to the playoffs are numbered by seed. I feel obliged to point out that I was at Heath for four years in the early 1980's, that Heath had a winning record in football all four years, and that we never qualified for the playoffs. It was a different world back then:
Class 1A, District 1:
1. Mayfield: 8-1, 3-0
2. Russellville: 7-3, 2-1
3. Fulton City: 1-7, 1-3
4. Fulton Co: 1-7, 1-3
Class 2A, District 1
1. Caldwell Co. 9-0, 3-0
2. Murray: 5-4, 2-1
3. Ballard Mem: 8-2, 1-2
4. Crittenden Co: 3-6, 0-3
Class 3A, District 1
1. Paducah Tilghman: 5-5, 3-0
2. Trigg Co. 5-4, 2-1
3. Fort Campbell: 2-7, 1-2
4. Webster Co: 1-8, 0-3
Class 4A, District 1
1. Owensboro: 8-1, 3-0
2. Madisonville-N. Hopkins: 7-2, 2-1
3. Calloway Co: 3-6, 1-2
4. Hopkins Co. Cent: 0-9, 0-3
Class 5A, District 1
1. Graves Co: 6-3, 4-0
2. Hopkinsville: 3-6, 3-1
3. Christian Co. 3-7, 2-2
4. Owensboro Apollo: 2-7, 1-3
NR: Ohio Co: 0-9, 0-4
Class 6A, District 1
1. McCracken Co: 9-1, 3-0
2. Henderson Co: 4-5, 2-1
3. Daviess Co: 3-6, 1-2
4. Marshall Co. 2-7, 0-3
Here are the last regular season games of the year (home teams listed first). By far, the big question of the week is whether Caldwell County can pull off a win at Mayfield:
Thursday, October 30:
Christian Co. (3-7) v. McCracken Co. (9-1)
Friday, October 31:
Fulton City (1-7) v. Crittenden Co. (3-6)
Graves Co. (6-3) v. Marshall Co. (2-7)
Hopkinsville (3-6) v. Franklin-Simpson (7-1)
Madisonville-N. Hopkins (7-2) v. Owensboro Apollo (2-7)
Mayfield (8-1) v. Caldwell Co. (9-0)
Murray (5-4) v. Fulton Co. (1-7)
Trigg Co. (5-4) v. Calloway Co. (3-6)
