OK I had never heard of these guys until I put on this album. I went back and did some reading about them and apparently they have been known as a band who was sort of doing their punk take on Bruce Springsteen. Which is an interesting idea.
Listening to this album there are definitely moments where you can hear the influence of Springsteen, but more than that you can hear the influence of early 80's bands like The Alarm. Oddly with all the influences of the 80's floating around right now it is funny to hear something like this. I never thought some of those clothes from the 80's would come back in style but I see them every day around the college campus I work on and so it's funny to be listening to this album walking around campus and see some of these clothes and find myself feeling like I'm 19 again.
I enjoyed these bands in the 80's and I find myself enjoying this album as well. It is a good modern take on this sound and I hope young college men enjoy listening to a song like "Get Hurt" as much as I enjoyed listening to a song like "I Still Believe" from The Call.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
