So far, Ballard Memorial is 5-0 and has outscored its opponents by 183-34. The Bombers are one of only seven undefeated teams in Class 2A. However, Ballard's last four games were against Fulton City, Todd County Central, Webster County, and Hopkins County Central. Together, those teams have combined for only one victory this year (Webster beat Hopkins County Central in the first week of the season). Tonight the Bombers will host Caldwell County, and they will likely find the Tigers to be more of a challenge.
We also have a big night in Christian County, as the Colonels and Tigers go at each other.
Meanwhile, in Madisonville, the Maroons have beaten their ancient rivals from Hopkinsville and Henderson, but are they ready for the mighty Red Devils from Owensboro?
Mayfield is in the midst of playing seven games in a row against teams from the Jackson Purchase. I don't think anyone else does that.
We have three match-ups with Tennessee schools. I like learning new mascots, so I did some research on these schools. We have the South Fulton Red Devils, the Gibson County Pioneers, and the Obion Central Rebels. Two of these schools have a "Mission" on their home page. Here's the Mission for South Fulton:
The mission of South Fulton Middle/ High School is to challenge each
student to be a contributing citizen by assuring personal and
intellectual development.
And here's the one for Obion Central:
The mission of Obion County Central High School is to develop
self-reliant, responsible citizens by challenging students through
instruction, curriculum and example to achieve their highest potential
in all endeavors.
I leave it to you which of those you prefer. I will point out that Obion County's web page also lists "Our Beliefs." There are nine of these. Number 8 is: "Educators should display knowledge of subject matter." It's hard to argue with that.
