The stat guys will tell you that any game that goes to overtime is basically a coin flip, and that taking a team to overtime on the road is basically as good as a win. But the AP pollsters don't care, dropping Denver out of the top spot after the Broncos lost in Seattle on Sunday. And I'm fine with that, because you have to rank these teams somehow, and I personally thought Seattle was much the better team.
After three weeks, the Bengals, Eagles, and Cardinals are the only undefeated teams left. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY!
1. Seattle Seahawks: 2-1
2. Cincinnati Bengals: 3-0
3. Denver Broncos: 2-1
4. Philadelphia Eagles: 3-0
5. St. Louis Football Cardinals: 3-0 (It's my list; I'll call the teams what I want)
6. San Diego Chargers: 2-1
7. New England Patriots: 2-1
8. Chicago Bears: 2-1
9. Baltimore Ravens: 2-1
10. Detroit Lions: 2-1
The Dolphins fell from 21st to 26th after their loss to the Chiefs; the Redskins moved up from 24th to 23d after their close loss in Philly -- but they will fall dramatically next week after being crushed at home by the Giants.
The NFL has started handing out byes, which is how the NFL lets me know that I should be watching baseball. For those of you prepared to watch during bye season, you should know that the Seahawks, Bengals, Broncos, and Cardinals -- four of the top five teams in the league -- are not playing. Fun! Not surprisingly, there are no games featuring two top 10 teams -- I think the best game will probably be an Sunday afternoon game where the Eagles are traveling to San Francisco to take on the Niners.
I hate bye season.
