These guys came up with a great idea. Mix boy band and pop punk and you get 5 Seconds of Summer. Of course the key to make that work is to be able to write a bunch of hook heavy, slightly funny, very energetic tracks and they did just that for their debut album. They also smartly left it at just 12 tracks and avoided having any failed tracks, so it cruises by pretty quick.
All in all this is a fun album and does very good at doing what it wants.
The biggest problem I see for this band is that you eventually have to follow this album up with something else and I'm not sure where they go. They have captured this idea so well on this album I'm not sure you can continue down this same path without sounding stale. It will be interesting to see what they do next time around.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
My daughter's days of finding this music unappealing are quickly dwindling. I can sense it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what kind of effect Frozen will have on their generation.
ReplyDeleteI think the effect of "Frozen" on that generation will be pretty significant.
