Kentucky High-school Football, More From the Opening Weekend

Jason Frakes likes his job ...

Caldwell County's Purdue-bound quarterback, Elijah Sindelar, starred, but Christian County Colonels fans had to be excited about the performance of their freshman quarterback, Kolbe Langhi, in a 78-57 loss ...

Lightning, flooding and heat threw off schedules all over the state ...

The 1974 Class 2A and 1986 3A state champs are off to a 1-0 start ...

In the other cross-Owensboro affair, Catholic beat Apollo, 49-14 ...

Howard Feggins, who played 11 games with the 1989 New England (cheating) Patriots, is the new coach at Warren Central, and one of his assistant coaches is former Philadelphia Eagle center and UK head coach Guy Morriss ...

I am totally enchanted with northern Kentucky these days ...

It took a couple of days, but Glasgow finally finished what they started and beat Hart County, 27-0 ...

The Bowling Green Purples are getting pretty accustomed to having success at WKU's L.T. Smith Stadium ...

"The McCracken County football team is off to the best start in school history."

  1. It seems to me, Eric, that you are particularly fond of the parts of Kentucky that lie along the Ohio River, from Northern Kentucky to Louisville to Owensboro.

  2. Actually, Maysville all the way down to Wickliffe, I love--yes.

At the same time, I think southern Kentucky from Murray to, say, Somerset is the most beautiful driving I've ever done.

And Fulton County--with its pecan trees, cotton and weird Murphy's Pond--is such a place of intrigue to me.

And I probably haven't given central Kentucky the attention it deserves, just out of spite for Matthew.

And then there's hardscrabble Appalachia, which interests me something fierce in spurts.

I really do just love the whole place. I imagine I would feel same about Indiana if I had spent more of my childhood there, but, such as my history is, Kentucky compels me in a supernatural way.
