I'm not a big fan of Louisville Trinity, but I have to admit that the Shamrocks had a tough path to the state title. In the regional final, they had to play Louisville Ballard, who the AP ranked as the number-two team in the State. The Shamrocks beat Ballard 59-58 to advance to the state tournament. Then in the quarter-finals they had to play Hopkinsville, who the AP had ranked as the number-one team in the state. The Shamrocks blew them out, winning 74-56. That set up a match-up with Scott County, the number-three team in the state. And the Cardinals finally stopped Trinity's run, beating the Shamrocks 62-56 behind a magnificent effort from Trent Gilbert.
In the nightcap, number 4 Covington Catholic cruised past Bowling Green 81-68.
So this sets up today's state final (time Central):
1 P.M.: (3) Scott Co. (35-3) v. (4) Cov. Catholic (32-2)
Unfortunately, this game will overlap with UK's game against Wichita State. But it should be a good one. And the winner it produces will certainly be a very worthy champion.
