Kentucky wrapped up its three-game home stand in style with an easy 79-54 win over a game team of Georgia Bulldogs. The Dawgs actually made 50 percent of their three-pointers, but they couldn't take many of them, and so went 4-8 from behind the arc. That wasn't enough against a smooth-running UK offense that shot 52.2 percent (24-46) from two-point range, 41.7 percent (5-12) from three-point range, and 80 percent (16-20) from the line. Georgia actually out-rebounded UK (35-32), but the Wildcat defense was generating turnovers for once. The Dawgs and 20 turnovers (to only 11 for UK), and a lot of those turnovers were transformed into run-outs, layups, lobs, and dunks.
We are now one third of the way through the SEC schedule, and the Cats are 4-0 at home and 1-1 on the road. Life gets much tougher this week, with trips to LSU and Missouri. According to Ken Pomeroy, there is a 59.7 percent chance that UK will lose at least one of those games. For that matter, there is a 13.3 percent chance that the Cats lose both of those games. So this will likely be a stressful week for UK fans.
But, for the first time in a long time, I'm excited about seeing that Cats face tough competition. If nothing else, I know they will try hard and do their best. And that's all we can ask.
I, too, am excited.
