Several contenders, some of whom are regarded as big-time guys, had terrible rounds today. Matt Kuchar was 7-under when the day began; he shot a 6-over par 76. Webb Simpson followed up yesterday's 64 with a disappointing 73. Robert Garrigus started the day 5-under (and was 8-under at one point on Friday); he shot a 74. And just to show that I don't always pick on the Americans, I would note that Justin Rose shot a 77 to go from 6-under to 1-over.
Those are the sort of scores I think we may see from Furyk and Dufner tomorrow. I don't think Furyk can play four good rounds in a row, and Dufner's
game is not going to hold together under the pressure of a major on
Sunday. Thus, I believe that the tournament will be won by Henrik
Stenson, Jonas Blixt, or Adam Scott. Because Stenson has been playing
so well, and because he's two shots ahead of Scott, I think he'll pull
it out. In fact, if he can put up another 69 and get to 8-under par, I think he'll have a pretty easy time of it. But it will be very interesting to see if either McIlroy or
Westwood can go low enough to make a run at the leaders.
Anyway, here's your top 10:
1. J. Furyk: -9 (65+68+68=201)
2. J. Dufner: -8 (68+63+71=202)
3. H. Stenson (SWE): -7 (68+66+69=203)
4. J. Blixt (SWE): -6 (68+70+66=204)
T5. S. Stricker: -5 (68+67+70=205)
T5. A. Scott (AUS): -5 (65+68+72=205)
T7. R. McIlroy (NIR): -3 (69+71+67=207)
T7. L. Westwood (ENG): -3 (66+73+68=207)
T9. D. Johnson: -2 (71+72+65=208)
T9. K. Streelman: -2 (70+72+66=208)
T9. R. Castro: -2 (68+69+71=208)
I'm rooting primarily for Jim Furyk, Jason Dufner, Adam Scott, Rory Mcilroy, Tiger Woods, Lindsey Vonn and Emma Talley.
