Emma Talley, the pride of Princeton, Kentucky, was at the Country Club of Charleston, South Carolina today, where she is competing in the U.S. Women's Amateur golf championship. She tied for second in two rounds of medal play, making her the number-3 overall seed in the 64-player match play phase. Her opponent in the round of 64 was Lydia Choi, a 16-year-old from Beverly Hills, California. They split the first four holes, before Talley took the lead with par to Choi's bogey on the 5th. Talley then won the 7th and 9th holes to take a 3-up lead at the turn. She stayed in the lead the rest of the way, and closed out the match on the 17th hole for a 3 & 1 victory.
So Ms. Talley is now in the Round of 32, which will take place tomorrow morning. Her opponent will be Tatiana Wijaya, a teenager (I can't find her exact age, but she seems to be around 16 or 17) from Indonesia. Talley beat Wijaya by six shots in the two rounds of medal play, but we all know that anything can happen in match play.
