Here is the latest top 10 in MLB from CBS Sports. Big week for baseball fans in Kentucky, as the Cardinals and Reds top the list. Meanwhile, the Swingin' A's are red-hot again -- and they surge from 13th all the way up to 5th:
1. St. Louis Cardinals: 34-17
2. Cincinnati Reds: 33-19
3. Arizona Diamondbacks: 30-22
4. Atlanta Braves: 31-20
5. Oakland Athletics: 30-23
6. Texas Rangers: 32-20
7. Detroit Tigers: 29-21
8. Boston Red Sox: 32-21
9. Pittsburgh Pirates: 32-20
10. New York Yankees: 30-21
Natstown (27-25) had a so-so week last week, and moved from 17th to 16th in the rankings.
#GREENCOLLAR! A's 11 at Giants 6! That's six straight and 11 wins in 12 games for Oakland. The Rangers' lead in the A.L. West remains two games, and the A's are back in action this afternoon for the Bay Bridge series finale against San Francisco (and ex-A Barry Zito).
ReplyDeleteWell, Barry Zito beat the A's in San Francisco, so now Oakland is three games behind Texas. The White Sox come to Oakland this weekend.
ReplyDeleteEven more reason for Kentucky to love the Cardinals ...
ReplyDelete#GreenCollar, baby! Bartolo Colon throws a shutout, and Josh Reddick, in his first game back from the disabled list, doubles in the first run in a 3-0 win over the White Sox in Oakland. The A's are 32-24 and still three games behind the Rangers in the division--but they now would be one of the two American League wild-card teams. Oakland is tied with the Yankees and a half game ahead of the Orioles among A.L. teams not leading their divisions.
ReplyDeleteStephen Strasburg left Washington's game with Atlanta after two innings, so that's not looking good. The Nats are now without two of their starting pitchers (Strasburg and Ross Detwiler), two of their starting outfielders (Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth), at least one relief pitcher (Ryan Mattheus broke his pitching hand when he hit a locker), and their starting catcher (Wilson Ramos). Danny Espinosa, their starting second baseman is batting .164 for the season and it turns out he's been playing all year with an injured wrist.
ReplyDeleteAs a team, the Nats are batting .232 -- 28th in the majors.
So the whole plan of punting last year and going all-out this year isn't working so well.

ReplyDeleteJOSH REDDICK DRAWS A BASES-LOADED WALK IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 10TH, AND THE A'S BEAT CHICAGO, 4-3!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Swingin' A's are 33-24 and back to within two games of West-leading Texas, which lost this afternoon to visiting Kansas City!
ReplyDelete#GREENCOLLAR! Yeah! A's 2, White Sox 0. Oakland sweeps the series. The A's are 34-24 and stay within two games of the Rangers, who also won today. Oakland now leads the A.L. wild-card standings; the A's are 1.5 games ahead of both Baltimore and New York (who plays Boston tonight).
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not exactly all about the pitching with Oakland this season, Reggie: A's 10 at Brewers 2. Coco Crisp homered the game's second pitch and finished with four hits to lead the brigAde. Oakland is 35-24 and within 1.5 of idle-tonight Texas in the A.L. West. GO, A'S!
ReplyDeleteA's bounce back from last night's extra-innings, fall-from-ahead loss in Milwaukee with a 6-1 matinee victory! Oakland is now 36-25 and--as of this moment--one game behind Texas in the division standings. #GREENCOLLAR!
