Here are the results from Friday's quarter-finals at the Boys' State Basketball Tournament:
Madison Central 65, Cov. Holmes 61 (Overtime)
Hopkinsville 50, Graves Co. 34
Montgomery Co. 66, John Hardin 57
Lou. Ballard 68, Knott Co. Cent. 53
This leaves us with the winners of the 2d, 7th, 10th, and 11th regions, and sets up the following semi-finals:
Madison Central Indians (30-5) v. Hopkinsville Tigers (33-4)
Montgomery Co. Indians (33-4) v. Lou. Ballard Bruins (31-4)
As you can see, there are no flukey teams here. These are all powerhouses. We haven't had any big upsets in the tournament, but I don't mind. We've had some great games, and the remaining teams are all very worthy.
Now, traditionally the State Semi-Finals are played on Saturday morning, with the Final on Saturday night. But UK needs Rupp Arena this afternoon so that the Cats can get stomped by Florida, so the Semi-Finals will be played tonight, and the Final tomorrow afternoon. We will hope that this experiment lasts for one year only.
