-- Marion County vs. Montgomery County at noon Central,
-- Anderson County vs. Pikeville Shelby Valley at 1:30 p.m.,
-- Owensboro Catholic vs. Louisville DuPont Manual at 6:30 p.m. and
-- Marshall County vs. Park Hills Notre Dame at 8 p.m.
While I will be REPPIN' REGION 1(!) and rootin' for the Lady Marshals, I must admit that Notre Dame--as well as Marion and Anderson counties--would have to be heavily favored. That third game appears to be the closest matchup of the day, as the state's best player, Becca Greenwell, leads the Lady Aces' bid to take down defending-champ Manual.
Montgomery County zipped out to a 10-4 lead in this first game, but now it's 49-26, Marion County, late in the third quarter.

Jason Frakes of The Courier-Journal Tweeted that this game featured the first "running clock" in Sweet Sixteen history.
Eric, who are the big stars for Marion County, and are any of them going to D-1 schools in the near future?
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just kind of whipped out that Becca Greenwell is the state's best player, and that is certainly a point of debate. In fact, Gatorade just named Marion County point guard Makayla Epps as the state's top player; she, like Greenwell, is a McDonald's All-American. Makayla is Anthony's daughter, and both she and a forward with Marion County, Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, have both signed to play for UK. Greenwell is going to Duke.
ReplyDeleteGo, Epps!
DeleteAnderson County, the state's second-ranked team, scored the second game's first 15 points. With 1:45 to go in the first quarter, the Lady Bearcats lead the Lady Kats, 22-6. Anderson County has made eight of its 11 field goals. WPKE 103.1 FM has pre-empted the Boston and Who records to broadcast today's game back to the home folks in Pikeville.

WPKE says Shelby Valley needs "some defensive stops in a bad way." Anderson County leads, 31-11, with 2:52 to play in the second quarter.

ReplyDeleteTwo quarterfinals today, two running clocks. 54-19, Anderson County, through three quarters.
ReplyDeleteAlabama leads Tennessee 31-27 at the half.
ReplyDeleteTennessee, which scored 50 points in the first half when UK came to Knoxville, only scored 48 points today in the whole game. The Vols go 5-23 from three-point range and 7-14 from the line. Ouch.
