Thursday night, in the quarter-finals of the OVC Tournament, Eastern Kentucky beat SEMO 84-69. But last night, EKU fell to Murray State 81-73 in the semi-finals. So the Colonels become the second of Kentucky's six eligible D-1 programs to be eliminated from the national championship race. Nevertheless, EKU had an excellent year. They finished 12-4 in the OVC, and 24-9 overall. It was their best season since Travis Ford took EKU to the OVC title in 2005.
Murray advances to the OVC Final, where they will take on a very powerful Belmont team. The Racers edged the Bruins in Murray last month, and we will hope they can do so again.
Meanwhile, in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament, Western Kentucky cruised pass Louisiana Monroe 74-60. As a result, WKU's record improves to 17-15. The Hilltoppers, who have won four of their last five, will be taking on old rival South Alabama tonight in the Sun Belt Quarter-Finals.
