Oh, Kentucky

Good jobs news from Murray. Bad from Bowling Green and Hebron.

Still dry in Estill County.

The state's education commissioner has completed his tour of all 174 Kentucky school districts.

Corbin is getting a Marshalls.

Covington appears to be getting rid of adult softball.

What would've ranked as Wednesday's second- or third-craziest development in college football was quickly defused.

    1. Monticello won the first Region 14 boys' basketball championship, in 1922. It then won Region 13 in 1924 and '25. The Trojans won Region 12 in 1937, 1956, 1958-60, 1967, 1969, 1974 and 1987. (Since 1987, Wayne County has won seven Region 12 titles.) In 1925 and '74, Monticello was eliminated from the state-tournament when ties were broken in the final seconds by opponents' free throws.

Monticello was runnerup for Kentucky's 1960 boys' basketball championship. The Trojans lost, 65-56, to Louisville Flaget at Freedom Hall in Louisville. (Flaget High no longer exists.) The big star was Don Frye, who had led three straight Trojan teams to the Sweet Sixteen and, by his senior season, was considered the state's and one of the nation's top players. He went on to play at the University of Colorado and Furman University, and in 2006 he was voted to the 12th Region Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Lady Trojans won the first two Region 12 girls' titles, 1975 and '76. Monticello won the girls' regional again in 1992.
