My feelings on this are quite simple. If they had a legitimate shot at hiring Petrino then they should have done it. If not then they should say, we never had a shot at him. If you are a school like UK and you pass on a guys who has proven himself to be a big time winner then you are complete fools.
I'm with you Eric, but when you have a known entity I think you have to take him, especially at a school like UK. Now if you talked with him and he wouldn't commit to more than 2 years or something like that then I understand, but again I think you should make all of this public.
Oh, I'm not disputing your point--Go Heath was right about John Calipari, so I was rolling with him on his pick of Bobby Petrino for this job. But, whatever, now I hope the new guy is great. That's all I'm saying. I do think one of the arguments against announcing publicly that Petrino didn't want you would be that it's recruiting trouble, then, if Petrino ends up at Vanderbilt or wherever.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Matthew. For what it's worth, press reports indicated that Petrino was interested in UK, but that UK wouldn't consider him.
ReplyDeleteI hope the new guy is great!
ReplyDeleteSo do I.

ReplyDeleteJohn Clay is thrilled.
ReplyDeleteWell, then there's nothing to worry about.
