I know nothing about Etta James. Still a few months before her death she put out what would be her last set of new material and "The Dreamer," and created a good exit for herself in musical terms.
There are a few throwaway songs on here, like "Welcome to the Jungle" but for the most part its a pretty simple collection of R&B with a blues tint that works. She sounds strong and involved and so leaves her fans with a nice goodbye album.
If you like blues this might be fun to throw on while you work. It's pretty laid back and mellow and would work well as background music.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
