MLB Update

Here's where everything stands with two games to go:

NL East:  The Nats have clinched this division.

NL Central:  The Reds have clinched this division.

NL West:  The Giants have clinched this division.

NL Wild Card:  The first wild card belongs to the Braves.  The Cardinals' have a two-game lead over the Dodgers for the other wild card, meaning that the Cardinals can clinch with a win over the Reds or a Dodgers loss to the Giants.

AL East:  The Yankees lead the Orioles by one game.  The Yankees host the Red Sox, while the Orioles are in Tampa Bay.

AL Central:  The Tigers have clinched this division.

AL West:  The Rangers lead the A's by one game.  Texas will be at Oakland tonight.

AL Wild Card:  The Rays and Angels have finally been eliminated.  The team that finishes in second place in the AL East (either the Yankees or the Orioles) and the team that finishes in second place in the AL West (either the Rangers or the A's) will be the two wild cards.

  2. The A's look great in this game, by the way--the gold shirts and white pants.

  3. Midway through seventh, and it's still 3-1, Oakland. Per MLB Network, rookies have been the starting pitchers in 102 of the A's 161 games this season.

  4. Grant Balfour, our closer, pitching in his fourth straight game, whips through Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz in the bottom of the ninth, and Oakland wins, 3-1!

I think this might mean that the A's are going to beat the Rangers today and that Heath's Sydney Trimble is come back to win the state girls' golf tournament.

  6. MLB Network will be carrying the game live! I wonder if we'll get the local broadcast again, with Ray Fosse (!!!) doing the color commentary.

  7. And I wonder if MLB Network, too, will have reports on the KHSAA girls' golf tournament at every half-inning break.
