The Cardinals were hoping to wrap up the National League pennant at home last night, but Barry Zito had other plans. From 2007 to 2011, Zito's record with the Giants was only 43-61, but this year he went 15-8 with an ERA of 4.15, and last night he turned back the clock with a vintage performance. He shut out the World Champions for 7 2/3 innings, and the Giants cruised to a surprisingly easy 5-0 victory.
So now we all go back to San Francisco for Game 6 and (potentially) Game 7, and the series is still very much up for grabs.
NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (Best of 7):
St. Louis leads San Francisco 3-2
AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (Best of 7):
Detroit beat New York 4-0
