ReplyDeleteThe Trigg County Wildcats came up just a little short in a wild district shootout last Friday night against the Fort Campbell Falcons, falling 56-40. It's another key district matchup this week, as the Wildcats hit the road to Dixon, to take on the Webster County Trojans. Trigg will look to rebound and go 1-1 in the district, while the game is the district opener for the Trojans. Coverage of Trigg County and Webster County will get underway Friday night at 6:00 on WKDZ 106.5 and wkdzradio.com.
Fort Campbell got a huge night from sophomore running back Triston Luke last Friday in a big 56-40 district win at Trigg County. Luke rushed for more than 300 yards and six touchdowns in the game, which saw the two teams combine for eight 4th quarter touchdowns. The Falcons return home to post tonight for a big district showdown against Paducah Tilghman. A win over the Blue Tornado would go a long way towards securing the top seed in the district for the Falcons. ReplyDeleteWith 5:31 in the second quarter, Calloway County throws a 40-or-so-yard touchdown pass to take a 27-0 lead at Hopkins County Central. "It looks like they're playing pattycake out there," says one Storm fan (in a T-shirt reading, "GOD FAMILY WILDCAT FOOTBALL") to another. Meanwhile, the 18 girl and one boy cheerleader cheer on dutifully. "Hit 'em again, hit 'em again, har-DER, har-DER!" And: "We are! Cen! Tral! We Are! Cen! Tral!" And: "C! H! S! C! H! S! C! H! S!" This one throws me for a bit--"CH?" Central Hopkins? I thought it was Hopkins Central. Ah: Central High School=CHS.
ReplyDeleteA little bit ago, the public-address announcer noted that Fort Campbell is leading Tilghman, 14-0. I could probably make it down there in about an hour and maybe catch the last half of the last quarter, except I'm not sure how complex it is to get on base and to the school.
I could run up to Dixon, where Trigg County is playing Webster County. Scott Brown with WKDZ passed through Country Cupboard in Madisonville en route from Cadiz to Dixon. That's a heck of a detour, but he Tweeted back to me that it was a "must." Country Cupboard is good, but I'm surprised it would rate quite this highly.
Madisonville-North Hopkins is idle tonight.
I could run down to the ol' Stadium of Champions on the south side of Hoptown and watch Christian County and Ohio County. I'll bet that score is as bad as this one by now, though.

DeleteHoptown's statkeeper started keeping stats for the Tigers in 1980, and he says a runner named Killebrew (sp?) has broken the team's single-game rushing record that he has recorded. The guy has 312 yards right now. WHOP refers to this as "the modern era."
DeleteOne of the WHOP commentators notes that the modern-era-record-breaker is the son of an Oak Grove police officer and the Oak Grove tourism director. The other WHOP commentator knows both of those people and is delighted to learn of the connection to the Hoptown runner.
