The Mayfield High Cardinals are coming off a loss in the KHSAA Class A championship game, and now they are 0-1 on the new season. Not sure whether this is related, but WYMC AM 1430 is keeping things low-key this morning: the fantastic Eddy Arnold cover of "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" (so fantastic) and the Mac Davis original of "In the Ghetto."

ReplyDeleteThe disconcerting bird news just never stops in Kentucky. In light of this report from Paducah, I will also reveal that we had an owl in our Madisonville neighborhood go after one of my favorite cats of all time the other day. Given that these two towns are only about 65 miles apart (as the "aggressive owl" flies), I wonder if it's the same owl.

DeleteThe Statler Brothers' 1966 "Flowers on the Wall" and Glen Campbell's 1969 "Galveston" are freak-flag anthems for a not-small percentage of western-Kentucky boomers.
ReplyDeleteAt least two or three times a year, I will listen to "Flowers on the Wall" for about four times in a row. I probably listen to "Galveston" at least five times a year.
