I'm pretty sure I've written this same review for other hip-hop artists, but here goes. Lyrically Wale is interesting, musically the album has a nice sound, vocally I really like Wale's approach. Problem is like so many other hip-hop artists he drags to much sex, drugs, and attitude into his songs.
Of course as we learned from Wiz Khalifa that's the pose one has to take. It has to be about sex, drugs, and attitude because that's what's expected and when you're young and coming up into the business you do what's expected. Problem is like so much country music you feel like your missing out on what these artists could deliver if they weren't trying to deliver what's expected by the suits.
In Wale's case he at least has a lyrical and smart way of rapping about this stuff and so for that alone he's interesting. Mix that with his delivery and the production and you have an album that's not bad.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
