The A's just swept a four-game series against the Yankees in Oakland. Remarkably, the A's won each game by one run. Look at these scores:
7/19: A's 4, Yanks 3
7/20: A's 3, Yanks 2
7/21: A's 2, Yanks 1
7/22: A's 5, Yanks 4 (12 innings)
Today, the A's hit a home run in the 9th to send the game into extra innings, and then won in the 12th.
The A's are now 51-44 and are tied with the Angels and Orioles for the wild card. Coolstandings.com gives them a 46.4 percent chance to make the playoffs. Now they are going on a huge road trip. They have three games in Toronto (a rematch of the 1989 ALCS) and then three games in Baltimore (a rematch of the 1971, 1973, and 1974 ALCS's).
The A's have long stretches of poor baseball followed by spurts of greatness. We may be looking at another spurt.
Yeah, this is getting really exciting. Hooray for A's!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting very excited about that series with Baltimore.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time since 1913 that the A's have swept a four-game series against the Yankees at home.
ReplyDeleteI am embarrassed to admit that--when I saw the Yankees were up next--I thought to myself, well, that was fun.
