High School Baseball Update

Eric continued his fine coverage yesterday. Here are the scores from the two quarter-final games from yesterday:

Bishop Brossart 5, Lou. St. Xavier 3
Woodford Co. 7, S. Warren 3

Bishop Brossart and Woodford County will meet in the semi-final tomorrow.

Here are today's quarter-finals:

Henderson Co. v. Newport Central Catholic
Meade Co. v. Ashland Blazer

The drive from Brandenburg to Ashland would go through some really pretty country.

  1. Oh, man, you're not kidding. This would be one great way. But here's an even greater one.--though, honestly, if you're going to go to all that trouble and time, just put away the atlas, keep the river on your left and follow your nose.

  2. Henderson's WSON--"We Serve Our Neighbors" and "The Hometeam"--is on the air with the Hens-NewCath quarter, moments from first pitch.

Dad said he got news of the Pearl Harbor bombing while walking with his family in downtown Henderson, from people who had heard about it on the radio. I always assumed those people were listening to WSON, but, alas, that would not have been so: "WSON 860 AM and 96.5 FM is one of Kentucky’s oldest radio stations. We were founded by the late Hecht S. Lackey, Sr. on Dec. 17th, 1941, ten days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor."

  3. WSON just reported more on those missing batting helmets from the Hens' first-round game in the tournament ... it turned out that they had been mistakenly left behind in Henderson. After using North Oldham helmets for a few innings, they switched to helmets loaned to them by the Lexington Legends minor-league baseball team. Henderson County scored in every inning that its players wore Legends batting helmets.

  4. Sixth inning, and we remain scoreless. In the bottom half, the Hens have runners on second and third with no out after a couple of NewCath errors ...

    1. Meade led 4-0 going into the top of the seventh, but the Tomcats are threatening. Blazer has scored two, and it still has a man at second with one out ...
