Yesterday the challenger, Boris Gelfand, opened with P-Q4 for the sixth time (this has been his opening move every time he played white in this match). The champion, Viswanathan Anand, once again responded with the Nimzo-Indian defense:
1. P-Q4 N-KB3
2. P-QB4 P-K3
3. N-QB3 B-N5
4. P-K3 O-O
5. B-Q3 P-Q4
6. N-B3 P-QB4
7. O-O QP x P
8. B x P B-Q2
Anand's eighth move (B-Q2) is quite unusual, and Gelfand -- evidently fearful that Anand had prepared some new trap -- took nearly 40 minutes to reply. But apparently he figured out whatever he needed to know. The game remained very calm, Anand offered a draw after 24 moves, and it was accepted.
So we have seen 9 draws in 11 matches, and the match is all tied with one game to play.
SCORE AFTER ELEVEN MATCHES:
Anand (IND) 5 1/2 - 5 1/2 Gelfand (ISR)
