As we suspected, Game 3 of the World Chess Championship was more dramatic than the two previous games, which were both quiet draws. The World Champion, Viswanathan Anand, opened with P-Q4, and the challenger, Boris Gelfand, responded with the Gruenfeld Defense (. . . N-KB3, followed by . . . P-KN4), just as he had in Game 1. But this time Anand was ready with a new attack that began with 3. P-KB4 and he gave Gelfand all sorts of problems. However, Gelfand defended bravely, Anand ran into time trouble, and the match ended with another draw. You can read about it here.
SCORE AFTER THREE MATCHES:
Anand (IND) 1 1/2 - 1 1/2 Gelfand (ISR)
