Here's what happened at the SEC Tournament on Friday and Saturday:
Friday, May 25:
Mississippi St. 4, LSU 3 (10 innings) (LSU eliminated)
Florida 7, S. Carolina 2 (S. Carolina eliminated)
Saturday, May 26:
Mississippi St. 2, Kentucky 1 (Kentucky eliminated) (MSU always gives UK fits at the SEC tournament)
Vanderbilt 8, Florida 6 (Florida eliminated)
So MSU and Vandy will meet today for the SEC championship. Vandy will be going for a very rare double -- winning the SEC basketball and baseball tournaments in the same year.
Kentucky has probably blown its chance to host one of the eight super-regionals, but we will hope the Cats are invited to host one of the 16 regionals that opens the NCAA tournament.
The OVC title game will feature Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay.
The Sun Belt title game will feature Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas St.
Louisville was eliminated from the Big East tournament on Friday after losses to UConn and South Florida. But the Cardinals should still be chosen for the NCAA Tournament.
Kentucky will not be hosting one of the 16 regional tournaments. The NCAA announced the 16 hosts this afternoon. They are as follows:
ReplyDeleteArizona
Baylor
Florida
Florida St.
LSU
Miami (Fla.)
N. Carolina
N. Carolina St.
Purdue (in Gary, IN)
Oregon
Rice
S. Carolina
Stanford
Texas A & M
UCLA
Virginia
I am outraged -- but not surprised -- that only three SEC teams were named as hosts, while 5 ACC teams were given hosting privileges. But given the ACC's history in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, that league needs all the help it can get.
That is total garbage. The SEC has won, like, the last 50 NCAA baseball championships. The NC2A really is jive.
DeleteSame old same old.
DeleteMSU is rolling over Vandy. The Bulldogs are coming to bat in the bottom of the 6th with a 3-0 lead.
ReplyDeleteMississippi State, which seems to have been put on earth solely for the purpose of beating UK and Vandy in SEC Tournaments, cruises to an easy 3-0 win over the Commodores. The NCAA will probably send the Bulldogs to an ACC regional, where they will be eliminated without too much fuss.
ReplyDeleteAustin Peay takes the OVC title with a 3-0 victory over Eastern Illinois.
ReplyDeleteLa-Monroe wins the Sun Belt title with a 4-2 victory over Arkansas State.
