College Baseball Update

Here are yesterday's results from the SEC Baseball Tournament:

LSU 11, Mississippi 2 (Mississippi eliminated)
Kentucky 5, Mississippi St. 1
S. Carolina 5, Auburn 3 (Auburn eliminated)
Vanderbilt 2, Florida 1

Kentucky and Vandy have now qualified for the SEC Semi-Finals, which will be played on Saturday. Kentucky will play the winner of LSU v. Mississippi State, who play at 3 P.M. CDT today. Vandy will play the winner of Florida v. South Carolina, who play at 6:30 P.M. CDT.

In the Sun Belt, Western still has to play one more game -- against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. But because the Hilltoppers have lost their first two games, they cannot qualify for the Sun Belt title game and they have effectively been eliminated.

In the OVC, Eastern Kentucky faces an elimination game against Jacksonville State. If they win that game, then the Colonels will face Austin Peay in another elimination game.

In the Big East, Louisville is scheduled to play UConn.

  3. As Eric pointed out, Eastern Kentucky is out. After doing quite well in the regular season, the Colonels couldn't get any pitching in the OVC tournament. Today they were blasted 9-4 by Jacksonville State. EKU becomes the fourth Kentucky school to be eliminated from the national title hunt. Only UK and U of L are left.
