Pennant Fever

Suddenly we have a race again. Manchester United was tied 4-4 at home by Everton, while Manchester City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 to pull within three points of the lead. Here are the standings:

1. Man Utd: 26-4-5 (83 points)
2. Man City: 25-5-5 (80 points)
3. Arsenal: 20-10-5 (65 points)
4. Newcastle Utd: 18-8-8 (62 points)
5. Spurs: 17-9-8 (59 points)
6. Chelsea: 16-8-10 (58 points)

United and City each have three games left (home games in ALL CAPS):

MANCHESTER UNITED:
4/30: at Manchester City
5/6: SWANSEA
5/13: at Sunderland

MANCHESTER CITY:
4/30: MANCHESTER UTD
5/6: at Newcastle Utd
5/13: QUEENS PARK RANGERS

Because City has an advantage on goal difference, it can win the title -- for the first time since 1968 -- if it can sweep its last three games. But that will be much easier said than done. Even if City manages to beat United next Monday, that game at Newcastle will be brutally difficult.
