Matt Kuchar eagle at 15 leapfrogs him by second-place Bubba Watson, and he's now tied with Louis Oosthuizen, coming up the fairway behind him, for tournament lead at 9-under.
If Louis Oosthuizen makes this pitch over a trap and hill for eagle on No. 15, he ought to call in Tom Watson to run in and retrieve the ball from the hole.
Birdie on 15 ... tied with Kuchar, who has long par putt on No. 16 for par, at 9-under for second.
Lee Westwood closes with a birdie for 8-under and lead in the clubhouse, where at least he knows he's free of having to play any more golf unless there's a playoff.

Dave Kindred @DaveKindred Bubba. Ooosty laughing off 18 tee. Think Hogan ever smiled up the 18th with Snead, Nicklaus with Palmer, Tiger with Phil? 5:43 PM - 8 Apr 12
The crowd goes wild for Oosthuizen and Bubba as they come up to the 18th green. Watson would be an enormously popular winner, and Oosthuizen (who won the 2010 British Open) would be a very worthy winner.
Oosthuizen has a putt that looks like something from the world's hardest miniature golf course. He has to go down one ridge and up another before he gets to the hole.

From deep in the pines, Bubba cannot see the green. But he hits a snap hook that curves around in the air and lands the ball right on the green! He will have a decent putt for birdie.
The crowd goes wild.
Bubba, like a true Southerner, has never taken a lesson or studied his swing on video.
Bubba Watson, the guy who I never thought would win this tournament -- or any big tournament -- proves me to be totally wrong. His birdie putt stops less than a foot away, and he taps IN TO BECOME THE 2012 MASTERS CHAMPION!!!
Lee Westwood ... birdie, birdie, birdie on Nos. 13-15 ... now 7-under, along with Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar and (here comes) Phil.
ReplyDeleteBUBBA! 8-under. Birdie at 14, as Oosthuizen goes long distance to save par and hold lead at 9-under.

ReplyDeleteStand down, Tom.

Bubba and Oosthuizen both hit horrific drives on 17.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen comes up short of the 17th green with his second shot, but Watson goes over a bunch of trees and lands his shot on the 17th green.
ReplyDeletePhil's drive on 16 drifts to the back of the green. He will have an extremely long putt for birdie.
ReplyDeletePhil strokes his putt on 16, and you can hear the crowd saying "Turn, turn!" But it doesn't, and he goes a few feet past the hole.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen makes a great bunker shot on 17, and he will save par.
ReplyDeleteMickelson pars 16. Two behind with two to play. If he had parred the fourth hole, he'd be in the lead.

Hanson misses his birdie putt on 16. He's three behind with two to go, and he will not win the Masters.
ReplyDeleteWatson, going for his fifth birdie in a row, almost holes his long putt on 17, but it goes in and out.

Dan Jenkins is better on Twitter than almost anyone else in writing a full article.
DeleteFor the record, Kuchar lost the tournament because he followed up an eagle on 15 (to get to 9 under) with a bogey on 16.
ReplyDeleteBubba crushes an enormous drive down the middle of the 18th fairway. He has a look of determination like you wouldn't believe.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen splits the fairway with his own drive.
GO, BUBBA! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteKuchar will par the 18th and finish at 8 under.
ReplyDeleteBubba is a true son of the South. Born in Bagdad, Florida; played golf for the University of Georgia. You can't get much more Southern than that.

Oosthuizen hits his approach shot too far and it goes to the back of the green, setting up a difficult two-putt.
ReplyDeleteWatson's shot is better. He'll have an OK shot for birdie, but he's probably still 25-30 feet away.
ReplyDeleteDave Tindall @DaveTindallgolf
DeleteBubba looks like he's got that classic "putt to win The Masters" putt. Same as Charl and O'Meara.

ReplyDeleteGreat tournament. I love them both.
DeleteOosthuizen has a putt that looks like something from the world's hardest miniature golf course. He has to go down one ridge and up another before he gets to the hole.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen was THIS CLOSE to holing his enormous putt, but it rolls about five feet past.
ReplyDeleteAn unruly roar rolls through the crowd, which realizes Bubba now has a putt to win.
If Bubba makes this point, I think the whole crowd should go: "S!E!C!"

ReplyDeleteBubba just misses. He taps in to finish with a 68 for the day, and 278 for the tournament: 10-under par.

They used to always start Masters playoffs on 10, but now they start them on 18. This will be sudden death.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen's drive on 18 comes up just short of the fairway bunkers. He puts his second shot in a great position, only about 12-15 feet from the hole.
ReplyDeleteBUBBA!
ReplyDeleteBubba hit a perfect drive. From 131 yards away, he hits a wedge that rolls to within 8-10 feet.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these guys will have great chances for birdie.
Here's Oosthuizen for birdie. I thought it was in all the way -- as did Oosthuizen -- but it just missed.
ReplyDeleteAnd now there is another big roar as the crowd realizes Bubba would win this thing.
I actually thought Oosthuizen's close miss was going in.
ReplyDeleteAs did I.
DeleteBubba lines it up, putts it, and it misses just to the left. Bubba taps in, and we are going to the 10th.
ReplyDeleteBubba has missed two straight (hard) putts for the championship.
ReplyDeleteBubba steps up to the 10th tee and hooks his drive off to the right.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen's drive looked like it was going into the trees, but it seems to have hit a tree and landed on the edge of the fairway.
ReplyDeleteOosthuizen goes first. From 231 yards, he comes up short of the green. The crowd roars with the realization that Bubba still has a chance.
