Far too much to process for me to write anything about this tonight. I will post something on this game tomorrow night. In the meantime, LET'S ALL CELEBRATE!!!
Update (11:28 A.M.): Here's a happy link from Coach Cal's web page.

Some of my favorite stuff:
ReplyDelete-- "In my mind popped, ‘What will I say if we lose? What will I say if we win?’ And I said, ‘What? Stop! Stay in the moment. Right now, walk in that building and enjoy yourself."
-- "Calipari may be the most honest coach in the country when it comes to navigating the NBA’s age minimum that forces the best players to campus for at least one year. At no moment does he pretend that getting to the NBA isn’t the primary goal of each and every member of his team. So he’s worked and worked and worked to create a place where the players come first, where a coach will risk the wrath of fans and snark of his coaching peers by declaring draft night as bigger than winning championships. And then he figured out how to coach them to the ultimate success."
-- At the hotel.
-- "Here's how you count to eight."
-- "'He is a beautiful basketball player,' said an admiring Bill Walton."
-- Twitter-feed favorites. From Rex Chapman (@rexchampman) of Owensboro: "Am overjoyed 4 these UK-BBall players. Saw @uknum1 tonight. Gave him a big hug. Tears actually welled-up in my eyes. #IShouldntCareThisMuch." From Tim Couch (@timcouchtv) of Hyden: "Special congrats @uknum1 been through a lot in 4 years from NIT to #NationalChampions will be remembered as 1 of #UK all time greats!#BBN."
"@uknum1," by the way, is Darius Miller, my main man of Maysville.
ReplyDeleteCalipari is now on Mike and Mike saying that his next goal is to have a team that goes 40-0.
ReplyDeleteHOW COOL WOULD THAT BE!
This is the closest UK has been to UCLA in the national championship race since 1971.
ReplyDeleteMark Story @markcstory
DeleteReverse the outcome of one game, 1975 NCAA finals, and the national title count this morning would be UCLA 10, UK 9 #candyandnuts
9:54 AM - 3 Apr 12
To be fair, I watched the 1975 game, and we weren't that close to winning.
DeleteThis morning, Tony Kornheiser is saying that it's a shame UK didn't play UNC. I could swear I saw those two teams play each other this year.
ReplyDeleteAfter they played he was on the radio saying he really wanted that to be the championship game. He thought they matched up so well with each other it was a game he wanted to see again.
DeleteHe could always watch the tape of the first game.
DeleteOr he could watch the tape from the 2011 NCAA game, when they had the same basic team and we had Jones, Lamb, and Miller.
By the way, last night on ESPN they had a segment showing all of the previous UK coaches who won the national championship: Rupp, Hall, Pitino, and Tubby Smith.
ReplyDeleteWhen they got to Hall, they put up a picture of Eddie Sutton.
John Herndon of The Anderson News and Rex Chapman noted this with dismay overnight.
DeleteI am confident that was an inside joke by the folks at ESPN. They showed it several times. And there's no way that so many people at ESPN can't tell the difference between Joe Hall and Eddie Sutton.
DeleteProbably Bobby Knight's idea.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the SEC now holds the NCAA championship in football, men's basketball, and baseball. I don't remember that ever happening before.
ReplyDeleteThe Alabama football fans, by the way, are the only fans on earth who actually like and respect the Kentucky basketball fans.
