The quarter-finals of the European Champions' League -- the biggest sports competition in the world outside of the United States -- wrapped up last week. The dreams of Cyprus were finally ended, as APOEL (the only team from Cyprus ever to get this far in the battle for the European Cup) were crushed by Real Madrid. Here were the aggregated scores over two games:
APOEL (CYP) 2 - 8 Real Madrid (ESP)
Marseille (FRA) 0 - 4 Bayern Munich (GER)
Benfica (POR) 1 - 3 Chelsea (ENG)
AC Milan (ITA) 1 - 3 Barcelona (ESP)
That sets up the following semi-finals, to be played over two matches between April 17 and 25. The team hosting the first match is listed first:
Bayern Munich (GER) v. Real Madrid (ESP)
Chelsea (ENG) v. Barcelona (ESP)
Barcelona and Real Madrid have been far and away the two best teams in Europe for the last two years, so it's good that they won't meet until the final.
