As An Alum, I'm Embarrassed

I just want to say as a UK alum I was embarrassed by the behavior of the students after last night's win.  I loved making fun of the UNC fans when I was living in North Carolina for their crazy street antics after wins over Duke and what not, and now I get to take the heat for my school's behavior.  My hope is that students will be cut from the University as punishment, and I'll be following this story to see how the administration handles it.

  1. Couch-burning has been huge in Maryland and West Virginia for some time. I didn't realize it had spread to Lexington until last night.

  2. Like I said some of this stuff when on at UNC when I was there. I actually think this is the University's fault. Students should know ahead of stuff like this that consequences for this type of behavior will be extremely severe. That's about the only way you can stop it from ever happening.

  3. There were warnings from the city officials--not sure about the university in advance of Saturday's game. Per the Lexington Herald-Leader, UK's Jay Blanton was up late Saturday night and into Sunday morning ghostwriting, chasing approvals on and releasing statements late after the game: "To the extent that students are involved in any illegal activity or actions that violate the university's student code, they will be dealt with appropriately."

I think it's the match-lighters' fault, and I hope they're identified and prosecuted. And I think it totally stinks that Jay Blanton had be on the J-O-B Saturday night.
