Most everyone I know that was born between say 1965 and 1975 have at some point had an Indigo Girls spell. They are easy to fall into, smart lyrics, hooky melodies, and they are both very expressive singers. If you're in one of those Indigo Girls moods then I think you'd enjoy this album. It pretty much fits into that mold of Indigo Girls stuff that everyone seems to enjoy so much.
I heard a great interview with Amy Ray, one half of Indigo Girls, a few years back about her solo career. When she's not recording and touring with the Indigo Girls she is out touring and recording solo stuff. It's quite different from the Indigo Girls as it tends to be much more rock oriented, but it still has that Indigo Girls feel to it that she brings. Still in the interview there were a few things I found really interesting.
When she tours alone she is out their driving all her equipment around in a van, setting it all up, etc. It's funny to me to think of someone in a successful band having to do all of that stuff.
Second thing is that she has found over the years that she'll often get booed by Indigo Girls fans. They get so angry that her solo work sounds so different from what they expected when they bought the tickets. I find that to be so sad.
Anyhow thought that was interesting. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
Completely excellent tune. My first favorite of the new week. Current standings for week ending April 9:
ReplyDelete1. "Making Promises," Indigo Girls
2. "Lights," Journey (heard on Maysville's WFTM 1240 AM, to which I'm listening in honor of my main man, Darius Miller)
"He's going to be one of those guys 50 years from now that they're going to be talking about.”
