This has got to be one of the most poorly produced albums I have ever heard. It completely takes away from the enjoyment of the album. Often Marketa's voice is completely lost as is other instrumentation as the piano simply overwhelms everything. Yes Marketa's piano playing is wonderful and her melodies are beautiful, but as Tori Amos has shown over the years that balance is not hard to find.
Some of the issue here is that Marketa has a soft voice to begin with but a good producer and sound engineer should be able to handle that problem without any effort. As it is this is a lovely album to have as background music, but any other level of success is lost along with Marketa's voice.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
I will be forever grateful to Marketa Irglova for her role in bringing into this world Once (5 stars, highly recommended), which is as good as anything ever.
