Yesterday's Boys' Basketball Scores

As Eric has already posted, the KHSAA Boys' Basketball Playoffs resumed after being delayed by one day for weather. Fourteen more teams were eliminated, meaning that 50 remain. Here were Saturday's scores:

3d Region Semi-Finals (at Owensboro Sportcenter):

Owensboro Apollo 82, Meade Co. 55

Muhlenberg Co. 87, Daviess Co. 56

Muhlenberg Co. (22-10) will be favored to beat Apollo (16-14) in the final on Monday.

9th Region Semi-Finals (at N. Kentucky Univ.):

Boone Co. 50, Lloyd Memorial 41

Newport Cent. Catholic 52, Cooper 38

Given the low scores in this region, it appears that our friends in Northern Kentucky have imbibed too much Big 10 spirit from across the river.

10th Region Quarter-Finals (at Montgomery Co.):

George Rogers Clark 75, Augusta 53

Campbell Co. 65, Deming 30

11th Region Semi-Finals (at E. Kentucky Univ.):

Scott Co. 73, Franklin Co. 39

Woodford Co. 60, Madison Cent. 55

This is the first time since 1938 that no team from Lexington has made the semi-finals of the 11th Region. Woodford Co. (22-12) has blown up this region, upsetting Lexington Catholic (24-8) and Madison Central (31-2) in back-to-back games. The Yellowjackets now face their biggest challenge yet, as they will take on Team Toyota (30-4) in Tuesday's final.

13th Region Semi-Finals (at The Arena, Corbin):

N. Laurel 38, Knox Central 30

Clay Co. 58, Pineville 52

North Laurel is in the midst of its own surprising run, as the Jaguars upset a good Knox Central team. North Laurel (20-14) will again be the underdog in Monday's final against Clay Co. (24-10).

15th Region Semi-Finals (at E. Kentucky Expo Center, Pikeville):

Johnson Central 61, Betsy Layne 36

East Ridge 66, Belfry 54

Both Johnson Central (24-10) and East Ridge (19-12) lost their district finals, but their fans will not care when these teams meet in Monday's final.

16th Region Semi-Finals (at Morehead St. Univ.):

Ashland Blazer 74, East Carter 54

Rowan Co. 47, West Carter 38

By contrast to many other regions, life in the 16th has gone much as expected. The two best teams in the region are Rowan Co. (24-7) and Ashland Blazer (23-11), and they will meet in Monday's final.
