In 1958, Sports Illustrated sent a photographer to a Kentucky game -- I'm pretty certain it was the Final Four game between Temple and UK -- and got a number of pictures of the Kentucky cheerleaders. You can see one here. Another one is here.
What I really like about these pictures is the agony and suffering that's involved. It's not easy to be a Kentucky fan -- it takes a real emotional commitment, even from cheerleaders. These games are serious, and you are supposed to take them seriously.
Oh, one more thing about those pictures. They're not taken from a Kentucky loss. They're actually taken from one of UK's greatest victories. The the night those pictures were taken, the Cats beat Temple 61-60 on a late shot by Vernon Hatton. The next night, they beat Seattle 84-72 to win the 1958 national championship.
