All but one of the 16 girls' KHSAA regional tournaments are in action today after yesterday's hiatus, and three of them are determining their representatives in next week's 2012 Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen® State Basketball Tournament:
First Region, at Murray State University's CFSB Center.
Second Region, at Christian County High School in Hopkinsville.

10th Region*, at Campbell County Middle School in Alexandria.
11th Region, at Eastern Kentucky University's Alumni Coliseum in Richmond.

The state's lone idle tournament:

In a Second Region semi, heavies Henderson County and Hoptown have gone to the fourth quarter tied at 33. It is a delight to be listening to Todd Hamilton of WHOP doing this game.

ReplyDeleteAnd ex-Lady Topper Tonya Wells leads her Hopkinsville Lady Tigers into the Second Region championship with a 54-49 win over Henderson County. WHOP's Todd Hamilton reports its Hoptown's first-ever appearance in the Second Region girls' title game, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. Hopkinsville (30-4) plays Livingston Central (25-5) tomorrow afternoon for a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
ReplyDeleteLouisville Butler from the Sixth Region, Louisville DuPont Manual from the Seventh and Ashland Blazer from the 16th secured their spots earlier today. Every other region but the 15th plays their championships tomorrow, and the 15th goes Monday.
ReplyDelete"it's," I should've said two comments ago.
ReplyDeleteSecond time the Lady Tigers are going to the Second Region championship, WHOP Todd is now saying.
ReplyDeleteHoptown coach Wells, a former Madisonville Maroon looking ahead to tomorrow's opponent: "When I was a junior, Livingston Central beat us in the semifinals. And in my senior year, we were 27-0, and Livingston Central beat us in the finals. ... It's been 26 years, but I haven't forgotten."
