Supposedly iHigh.com is carrying the 6th Region Final, but I never have good luck with that web page.
ReplyDeleteOK, if anyone can explain how iHigh is supposed to work, please let me know. According to the iHigh web page, they are carrying the 4th region final and the 11th region final, but I can't get either of those games to work.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm trying the 14th region on WYMT's web page, but it keeps freezing.
I think you've got a Silverlight issue.
DeleteOH, YES, I DID! I JUST WENT ALL TECH-NOTE UP IN HERE!
OK, here's what's going on so far.
ReplyDeleteIn the 6th Region, Bullitt East and PRP are tied at 13 after one quarter.
In the 4th Region -- which is being played at the same time as Western's battle for the Sun Belt title, which is a real shame -- BGHS has a 7-0 lead after 1:38.
In the 14th Region, the Knott County gym appears to be packed to the rafters.
ReplyDeleteOK, the freezing picture was getting to me. Now I'm listening to the 14th Region final on WSGS-FM (101.1 on your dial), from Hazard, KY.
ReplyDeleteThis is more like it.
I had the same freezing-picture issue with the WYMT feed, but I do want to say that it made me very, very happy to think about the people out there who actually get that channel were getting to watch their regional championship on real TV. That's very excellent.
DeleteAnd it occurs to me once again that KET really needs to launch a sports network. It could contract it out to the iHigh.com Kentucky desk.
I would love to know how many men call at least one basketball game -- high school or college -- in the Commonwealth of Kentucky each year. It must be dozens. They should all have a big dinner each year, hosted by Tom Leach.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic, fantastic idea.
DeleteWhen I bumped into WHOP's Todd Hamilton in the men's room at the Second Region semis the other night, I mentioned to him a little too enthusiastically how I had been listening to Danny Weddle on Maysville's Soft 96 FM earlier in the afternoon. (This is an example of what I was talking about about being too warm and too earnest, particularly given the environment.) Todd said he knew Danny--or knew of Danny, maybe. Anyway, I had to dial it down real fast when I realized that my comments were predicated on the notion that all of these guys hung out and talked on the side a lot.
GROUPIE!
14th Region: After one quarter, Buckhorn leads Knott County Central, 11-9.
ReplyDeleteNow WFBR is saying that they are carrying the Bullitt East/PRP game. Well I tried them earlier, and I couldn't get that stream to work. So I'm staying with the folks in Hazard.
ReplyDelete6th Region: PRP leads Bullitt East 21-20 at the half.
ReplyDelete6th Region: The PRP students chant "overrated" at BEHS's Derek Willis, who is going to UK. The BE fans respond with a chant of "Big Blue Nation."
ReplyDelete12th Region: Southwestern, going for its first trip to the State Tournament, leads Boyle Co. 34-25 at the half.
ReplyDeleteHere are the last 10 winners of the 12th Region:
ReplyDelete2011: Wayne Co.
2010: W. Jessamine
2009: W. Jessamine
2008: Lincoln Co.
2007: Lincoln Co.
2006: Boyle Co.
2005: South Laurel (STATE CHAMPS)
2004: Wayne Co.
2003: South Laurel
2002: Wayne Co.
11th Region: Scott County jumps out to a quick 9-0 lead over Woodford County.
ReplyDeleteHere are the last 10 winners of the 11th Region:
ReplyDelete2011: Lex. Catholic
2010: Scott Co.
2009: Lex. Catholic
2008: Lex. Catholic
2007: Scott Co. (STATE CHAMPS)
2006: Madison Central
2005: Lex. Henry Clay
2004: Lex. Lafayette
2003: Lex. Henry Clay
2002: Lex. Catholic (STATE CHAMPS)
11th Region: Scott County leads Woodford County 22-12 after one.
ReplyDelete4th Region: Bowling Green 32, Warren Central 29, 2:16 left in the third quarter.
ReplyDelete10th Region: Clark County 19, Mason 12 at HALFTIME. Come on, folks, make some shots!
ReplyDelete8th Region: Oldham County is up 22-18 on Collins at the Half.
ReplyDeleteThe stream for WSGS in Hazard has failed, so now I'm listening to Reach 95.3 (WFBR-FM), which is carrying the Bullitt East/PRP game. These are the BEHS announcers.
ReplyDelete6th Region: Bullitt East leads PRP 34-30 with 7:22 left in the game.
ReplyDelete14th Region: Knott County starting to roll; they're up 33-25 on Buckhorn with 4:55 left in the 3d quarter.
ReplyDelete4th Region: BGHS can taste it now. They lead Warren Central 39-32 with one quarter to go.
ReplyDeleteThe Bullitt East announcers point out that their team went to Rupp Arena last year, and made it to the Final Four before losing a tough game to Rowan.
ReplyDelete6th Region: BEHS having trouble with PRP's pressure. East leads 39-37 with three minutes left after back-to-back turnovers.
ReplyDelete6th Region: Actually, there's four and a half minutes left. East leads 39-38.
ReplyDelete6th Region: UK recruit Willis scores on an alley-oop jam. East leads 41-38. Three-and-a-half minutes left.
ReplyDeleteThe East announcers report: "We've got a barn-burner here, folks."
ReplyDelete2:42 left. East up 41-38 with the ball.
ReplyDelete2:17 left. PRP gets a steal and hits a three. All tied at 41.
ReplyDeleteEvery time East makes a turnover, the BEHS announcer says, "Oh, no" before he actually describes what happened.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite things about Madisonville's broadcasts on 1310 AM here. They often use a three-man booth, and one of the guys is like this designated exclaimer on behalf of the home team. He pretty much always spoils the play-by-play guy's explanation with some outburst, positive or negative. It would be interesting if you could tune in a stream of only this one guy's exclamations, without any play-by-play or analysis otherwise ... Peter Gabriel's "Last Temptation of Frank Ramsey."
Delete1:19 left. Willis made a layup to put East up 43-41. But PRP responded with a three, so the Panthers now lead 44-43.
ReplyDeleteEast calls time.
Valu-Market of Mount Washington says that they offer online shopping.
Hey, that's pretty cool.
Delete4th Region: Bowling Green leads Warren Central 46-38 with 3:07 left.
ReplyDelete14th Region: Knott Co. leads Buckhorn 40-33 after three quarters.
ReplyDeleteBack to the 6th Region:
ReplyDeleteEast is frustrated by PRP's 2-3 zone (PRP has been playing man-to-man all night).
So East calls time with 45 seconds left.
The East announcers tell us, "This is what it's all about."
ReplyDeleteWith 25 seconds left, Trey Rakes of BEHS draws a foul. He's headed to the line for two shots, with his team trailing 44-43.
ReplyDeleteFirst FT: good
ReplyDeleteSecond FT: no good
All tied at 44.
East gets the rebound, but PRP steals the ball!
PRP calls time with 18 seconds left.
4th Region: BGHS 51, Warren Cent. 40 (1:39 left)
ReplyDeleteThe East announcers again tell us that "this is what it's all about." They also note that "this place is eeee-lectric."
ReplyDeletePRP gives the ball to Max Clemons, their big gun. Willis plays defense. Clemons drives to the basket and beats Willis, but another BEHS player DRAWS A CHARGE!
ReplyDeleteBEHS ball with 3 seconds left.
Controversy in the 6th Region. The BEHS player was actually inside the block/charge arc, so under college rules that would be an automatic blocking call. But they don't have that rule in high school, so now East can win.
ReplyDeleteAt the buzzer, Trey Rakes launches a 35-foot shot, and IT GOES IN!!!!
ReplyDeleteEAST WINS THE SIXTH REGION, 47-44.
They go to Rupp to play Trinity.
The Bullitt East fans are chanting "Rupp Arena."
ReplyDeleteUK recruit Derek Willis finishes with 22 points and 14 rebounds, which is very good in a 47-44 game.
What a finish! That was, indeed, what it's all about, and, even this morning, it was still eeee-lectric.
Delete4th Region: Bowling Green gets over the hump, beats Warren Central 60-47.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lively, eeee-lectric dinner after church Sunday the Fant family of Bowling Green is going to have this week.
Delete14th Region: Knott Co. 44, Buckhorn 40 with 1:15 left.
ReplyDeleteCome on, Buckhorn!
Delete10th Region: I always tell teams in the 10th region not to sleep on Mason County, and Clark County did not. They crush the Royals 61-39 to win the 10th Region for the second year in a row.
ReplyDeleteThe George!
DeleteIn the 14th Region, Knott County finally finishes off tiny Buckhorn. Knott County takes the 14th Region, 50-42.
ReplyDeleteOK, so here are the regional champions so far. Regions with no team listed are still playing:
ReplyDelete1st:
2d:
3d: Owensboro Apollo
4th: Bowling Green
5th:
6th: Bullitt East
7th: Lou. Trinity
8th:
9th: Boone Co.
10th: Clark Co.
11th:
12th:
13th: North Laurel
14th: Knott Co. Central
15th: Johnson Central
16th: Rowan Co.
In our beloved First Region, Marshall leads Tilghman 26-17 at the half.
ReplyDeleteIn the 12th Region, Southwestern will be going to the state tournament for the first time. They defeat Boyle County 76-69.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, Southwestern High School is in the Pulaski County school district. It opened in 1993 to alleviate crowding at Pulaski County High. It's located in Somerset.
ReplyDeleteTheir teams are called the Warriors, and their web page features a Native American wearing war paint. I would be willing to bet that no other school founded after 1990 has chosen a Native American with war paint as its mascot.
The "Southwestern Warriors" ... didn't they play in the next district over from Gil Thorp's back in 1975?
DeleteIn the 8th Region, Oldham County beats Collins 50-40 to return to state for the second year in a row.
ReplyDeleteIn the 5th Region, John Hardin leads Bardstown 41-30 with 3:02 left in the 3d quarter.
ReplyDeleteI'm pulling for Bardstown here, as it would feel like a little piece of Heath was in the Sweet Sixteen.
DeleteThe Froggyland announcers, who were terrified that Tilghman was going to smoke Marshall last year (and were thrilled with Marshall won the game), are now very confident that Marshall can handle Tilghman. The Marshals lead 34-23 with 5:10 left in the third quarter.
ReplyDelete2d Region: Hoptown leads Madisonville 33-28 at the half.
ReplyDeleteIn the 11th Region, Scott County has had a pretty easy time against Woodford County. Hunter Douglas tweets, "Woodford got spanked. Hand it to Scott co. They will win state. They just don't miss."
ReplyDeleteI certainly agree that Scott County will win the state tournament if they don't miss.
The Froggyland announcers say that one of the announcers will need assistance to get out of the gym if Marshall County loses.
ReplyDeleteHe's safe for now. Marshall leads 41-34 late in the third quarter.
There's a typo here. The Froggyland announcers actually said that one of the referees would need assistance to get out of the gym if Marshall County had lost.
DeleteSTAND UP AND CHEER!!!
ReplyDeleteWestern Kentucky beats North Texas 74-70 to WIN THE SUN BELT TOURNAMENT!!!
This will be their 22d trip to the NCAA's.
Man, that was awesome.
Delete1st Region: Marshall leads Tilghman 43-37 after three quarters. The Froggyland guys are getting a little nervous.
ReplyDeleteTilghman hits their sixth three-pointer of the game to make the score 43-40 with 7:10 left.
ReplyDeleteThe Froggyland announcers tell us there is a lot of basketball remaining.
5th Region: John Hardin (21-8) beats Bardstown (25-9) 74-66 to win the Fifth Region for the first time since 2006.
ReplyDeleteShoot, Boo.
DeleteOK, so now the two western-most regions are the only ones still playing. Here are your champions so far:
ReplyDelete1st:
2d:
3d: Owensboro Apollo (first trip since 2006)
4th: Bowling Green (2009)
5th: John Hardin (2006)
6th: Bullitt East (2011)
7th: Lou. Trinity (2004)
8th: Oldham Co. (2011)
9th: Boone Co. (1996)
10th: Clark Co. (2011)
11th: Scott Co. (2010)
12th: Southwestern (first appearance)
13th: North Laurel (first appearance)
14th: Knott Co. Cent. (2009)
15th: Johnson Cent. (2006)
16th: Rowan Co. (2011)
At this point, I'm going to be for Bowling Green. And Bullitt East. And maybe Johnson Central, if J.J. Jude also plays basketball.
DeleteAlso Rowan County.
DeleteI think my favorite part of the entire KHSAA basketball saga is the last hour of regionals, where everyone else is finished and only the 1st and 2d regions are still playing. It gives me a very homey feeling.
DeleteIn the 11th Region, Scott County crushed Woodford 78-43. They await the winner of Marshall and Tilghman.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 1st Region, Marshall has re-established control. They lead 49-42 with 3:50 to play. The Froggyland guys tell us that this game is just about over.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, in the Second Region, Hoptown leads Madisonville 54-52 early in the 4th quarter.
ReplyDeleteI will also be for whoever comes out of this game.
Delete2d Region: With 2:41 left, Hoptown now leads 61-54.
ReplyDelete1st Region: Marshals lead 51-44 with 2:40 left.
ReplyDeleteTilghman was just called for a charge that was so bad that even the Froggyland guys disagreed with it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that will make the Marshal fans feel better about the officiating.
Marshall County going to the line, up 53-44 with about a minute to go.
ReplyDeleteThe Froggyland guys say, "You can get out the engraving kit," because this game is over.
My wife etches.
DeleteFYI, John Hardin opened in 2001. It is located in Radcliff, and is part of the Hardin County School System.
ReplyDeleteSee, McCracken County? Someday you're probably going to need more than one high school anyway.
The Hardins: Cecilia Central, Etown John and Radcliff North.
DeleteThe McCrackens, eventually? Concord Central, Kevil Mary and Hendron South?
DeleteSo after not winning a Regional Title from 1996 to 2010, the Marshals are about to win the Region for the second year in a row. They will head to Rupp with a record of 32-2.
ReplyDeleteIn the Second Region, Madisonville loses in the final to a Christian County school for the second straight year. Final Score: Hopkinsville 65, Madisonville 54.
ReplyDeleteHoptown boys and girls are both going to state.
DeleteHopkinsville won the state tournament in 1985, but this is only their third trip to the state tournament since that year.
ReplyDeleteI will be rooting for Hoptown.
DeleteAnd in the First Region, Marshall County finishes off Tilghman, 58-52.
ReplyDeleteThat's all for now. GoHeath out.
ReplyDelete5 stars, highly recommended--thanks, GoHeath.
