What's depressing about Kentucky's draw for the NCAA Tournament is not that it is so horribly unfair to Kentuckians (who may have to choose between UK and Western in the round of 64), or that it is so blatantly stacked against the Cats. (To reach the Final Four, we will probably have to beat Western Kentucky (a red-hot local rival with a new coach), UConn (the defending champion who lost to Syracuse by only three points on Thursday), Indiana (who already beat UK in December) and Duke (who has only lost one game in the Elite Eight since Coach K started coaching there).
No, what's so depressing is that we all knew, before the draw was announced, that the NC2A would try to hurt us. It is a real shame that Kentucky fans, who love college basketball more than pretty much anyone else on earth, are trapped in such a bitter and sullen relationship with the administrators who are supposedly responsible for the future of college basketball -- that they see us as enemies to be conquered instead of fans to be wooed. But that's just where we are, and where we have been for a very long time.
