Last Night's Boys' Basketball Scores

A lot of dreams ended last night. Twenty-eight teams were eliminated, meaning that 64 schools are still playing for the State Title.

The big story of last night was Trinity's come-from-behind win against Ballard. The Shamrocks (30-3) trailed 44-35 going into the last quarter, but they outscored Ballard 23-11 in the fourth quarter for a 58-55 victory. The Rocks crushed St. X 63-45 when they met on January 20 at Freedom Hall, and they will be heavy favorites to repeat the trick.

In the Third Region, there will be a lot of heartbreak in Beaver Dam as Ohio County (29-3) was stunned by Owensboro Apollo (15-14) by the score of 52-51. It just goes to show that those city kids are always dangerous, no matter the record.

In the Fourth Region, it's always sad to say good-bye to Russellville, but they were drilled by Warren Central 59-44, as that region heads for the inevitable showdown between Warren Central and Bowling Green.

Two of the traditional bullies in the Ninth Region -- Holmes and Highlands -- were eliminated last night, and the good burghers of Northern Kentucky are running out of powerhouse programs.

And finally, I should say that those of us who are not in Western Kentucky are keeping everyone in our prayers as they face a difficult weather day. Given how much Kentuckians love nature, it's a real shame nature doesn't reciprocate.
