Farewell to the Eagles

Last year, Morehead State had perhaps its best season ever -- winning the OVC Tournament and stunning Louisville in the first round of the NCAA's. This year, the Eagles were in rebuilding mode -- but they still had a pretty good season, going 10-6 in the OVC and 18-15 overall. But they were beaten last night by a red-hot Tennessee State team that has lost only once since January 16. The final score was 59-52. This will be the first time since 2008 that Morehead State has missed the OVC title game, but the Eagles did post their fourth consecutive winning season. Morehead finished 191st in the country, according to Ken Pomeroy, and they came very close to derailing Murray's undefeated run, losing to the Racers by only 66-60 on January 18. My own belief is that as long as Donnie Tyndall is the Morehead coach, the Eagles will be very competitive.

Morehead is the second of Kentucky's six D-1 teams to be eliminated from the title chase.
