Louisville makes a great, unbelievable, come-from-behind effort to defeat Florida 72-68 and return to the Final Four for the first time since 2005. This will be Louisville's ninth trip to the Final Four, following trips in 1959, 1972, 1975, 1980 (national champion), 1982, 1983, 1986 (national champion), and 2005. It will be Rick Pitino's sixth trip to the Final Four, following prior trips with Providence (1987), Kentucky (1993, 1996, 1997), and Louisville (2005).
The happiest man in America right now -- except for Louisville fans, of course, is Jerry Tipton, who just can't wait to ask Coach Calipari about whether U of L's victory puts more pressure on Kentucky going into tomorrow's game.
But we at the Heath Post, who are always glad to toast the success of our fellow Kentuckians, are happy for Louisville, who remain -- as they have always been -- the true class of the Metro Seven.
The last couple of season I hear all of this talk about how the Big East Tournament is so tough that it beats teams down and so teams like Syracuse would be better off to lose early rather than have to play through it. Since the winner of the tournament has now made the final four two years in a row, I hope we stop hearing this argument.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I want to say about Louisville: No, they weren't going to "go away," as CBS's announcers seemed so surprised about during the Cardinals' second-half rally. This was Louisville's ninth Final Four trip. Louisville has won two national champions. The Cardinals are the Big East Conference champions, and they are coached by Rick Pitino. No, they were not going to go away.
ReplyDeleteFine game, Louisville, and, go, UK!
This was the third straight year UK has played the Big East Tournament champion in the NCAA tournament, and the first of the three that we've won.
ReplyDeleteA sort of homecoming.
ReplyDeleteOh don't sorrow, no don't weep
For tonight, at last
I am coming home
