Breaking News: IU Fans Hate Kentucky

The Herald-Leader's Mark Story -- who wrote a column in March 2009 arguing that the Wildcats should keep Billy Gillispie as their men's basketball coach -- is out today with his big piece for the upcoming UK/IU clash. The angle he decided to take for this story was to explain to Kentucky fans exactly why Indiana fans hate them so much. Now you may ask: couldn't I simply get the same information by going to an Indiana message board like Peegs.com? Well, of course you could. In fact, that's what Mark Story did. Mike Pegram -- the "Peegs" in Peegs.com -- is the primary source he cites in his piece.

But why, you ask, would Mark Story use his column in a Lexington newspaper to pass along messages of hatred from the sort of people who post on IU message boards? That I can't explain. Maybe he thinks we don't know enough about our neighbors to the north. Maybe he feels the need to counterbalance all of the pro-UK coverage we see in the rest of the media. Perhaps he's still disappointed we let Billy Gillispie get away. Anyway, he's done his part to make sure Kentuckians are exposed to IU's hatred. Thanks, Mark Story!

For the record, we at the Heath Post are only saying nice things about Indiana this week. For example, it is literally true that I rooted very hard for IU in the national championship games that the Hoosiers won in 1976, 1981, and 1987, and I'm still happy that they won those games.
