I have been listening to this album off and on now for about a week. Part of my problem with the album was that after I would start it up, it would very quickly blend into the background of whatever else I was doing. It can be that kind of an album, and mostly is that kind of an album. Quiet and subtle it can fill in the voids of sound around you and works well for that purpose.
This morning, however, I was informed of the death of a coworker from one of my old jobs. It really caught me off guard to start the day off with such news and put me in a dark mood. So today when listening to The Devil's Walk, I found it to have an emotional pull and a depth I had previously not noticed. It is therefore a mood album if you are in the right mood and pulls this off quite well.
For an artist who comes from a dance-electronica past this album shows good song structure and a real depth once you lock into it.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
I'm very sad to hear about your former co-worker.
