I'll say the same thing about this album that I read everywhere else, and that is that the song structures on this album are very interesting. It has its own sound and certainly is not being aimed specifically to produce a bunch of radio singles like so many other rap albums.
That being said it's a mistake to think the album doesn't have good hooks and good beats because it does. My only problem with the album is that J Cole who who does a solid job as producer on this album is not on the same level as a lyricist. Too often he falls into the same trap as so many other rappers who are limited lyricists and goes to the vulgar.
Still if you like hip-hop it's worth giving this album a listen just for the music.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
