We're Talkin' Practice

Not only did Coach Cal set up a televised practice during this off week, he managed to get the practice shown on ESPNU. Right now, if you have the "U," you can see the Cats in Memorial Coliseum -- one of my all-time favorite facilities. How cool is that?

  1. There's a big crowd at Memorial, and anyone watching on ESPNU is probably wondering why the crowd is so quiet. But I saw UK do a scrimmage at Paducah Tilghman in 1981 or 1982, and I've never seen so many people be so quiet. Every single person in the gym was trying to memorize every play. For Kentucky fans, having the chance to watch Calipari run a practice is like having a backstage pass to hang out with Springsteen.

  2. I have a 17-year-old son, and I am amazed at the level of discipline and effort required to play big-time college basketball.

  3. It is almost funny to watch Eloy Vargas try to do anything against Anthony Davis.

  4. It is so quiet in Memorial that you can hear the shoes squeaking. A little bit ago the camera panned up into the crowd, and all the UK fans were leaning forward, trying to memorize everything that was happening.
