Tech Note: The Floods and Hard Drives
Back in August I purchased four, 2T hard drives for around $80 apiece. By December those same drives were running about $240 apiece from the same vendor. That's because in October flooding in Thailand took out a lot of manufacturing facilities which had a huge impact on the world supply of hard drives. The prices are starting to creep back down now, that same hard drive now is about $140, but this short supply of hard drives has had a big impact on the tech industry and will hurt profits for some, while actually helping others.
