Next week, the Racers host two dangerous teams from the Volunteer State. On Thursday night, Tennessee State (8-4 in OVC play) comes to Murray. And on Saturday, February 11, Austin Peay (6-6 in the OVC) rolls into town. We will hope that Murray can handle them both.

Murray State Racers: 23-Skiddoo
I can only imagine the chaos that has engulfed the Murray State program these days. Tonight, for example, Murray was at UT-Martin. The Pacers (at some point, UT-Martin apparently changed its nickname to the "Skyhawks," but that is a ludicrous name that has nothing to do with Tennessee walking horses, and I refuse to use it) were 3-21 and had lost 12 in a row. So Murray was heavily favored -- Pomeroy had them winning 81-61. Nevertheless, Martin's gym was packed with 4,700 people -- many of them supporting the Racers. It must have been quite an atmosphere -- Murray coach Steve Prohm said it felt like you were in a crowded high school gym. And the Pacers played much better than expected. And Murray was cold as ice, making only 3-17 three-pointers. But the Racers won again, downing UT-Martin 65-58 for their 23d victory in a row, and maintaining their place as the Nation's Only Undefeated Team. So good for them.

By the way, Western beat South Alabama 75-66 in Bowling Green last night. The Tops have now won three of their last four, and their conference record is now 4-6. On January 15, the Tops were ranked 282 by Ken Pomeroy; now they're up to number 231 -- their best ranking of the year.
