Litkenhous Ratings

For the last week of the season, the Courier-Journal has released its Litkenhous Ratings by District. Here are the top teams in each Region. The top 20 teams in the Commonwealth are designated by their ranking:

1st Region:
Marshall Co (82.7)
Paducah Tilghman (70.0)
Marshall remains an overwhelming favorite to repeat as 1st Region champs

2d Region:
Hopkinsville (81.6)
Madisonville-North Hopkins (74.4)
This region is almost always won by a school from Christian County. Apparently this year it is Hoptown's turn.

3d Region:
Ohio Co (80.2)
Muhlenberg Co (79.6)
The two favorites are both in the 10th District, which could make for two dramatic matchups.

4th Region:
19. Bowling Green (85.5)
Warren Cent (83.7)
Glasgow (83.7)
Bowling Green is the highest-ranked team west of Louisville. But could the Glasgow Scotties break up the BG-Warren Central duopoly that dominates life in this region?

5th Region:
Bardstown (82.7)
John Hardin (80.7)
Bardstown is a small school for a regional favorite.

6th Region:
2. Pleasure Ridge Park (100.8)
5. Bullitt East (97.4)
6. Moore (95.7)
8. Jeffersontown (91.8)
Can Bullitt East hold off the Louisville schools like it did last year?

7th Region:
1. Trinity (108.1)
4. Ballard (99.2)
10. Manual (89.9)
18. Eastern (86.6)
Will the KHSAA allow Trinity to dominate the state in both football and basketball?

8th Region:
16. Oldham Co (86.7)
20. S. Oldham (85.4)
How can there be an Oldham County and a South Oldham in the same county?

9th Region:
13. Dixie Heights (87.1)
17. Cov. Holy Cross (86.7)
The only Kentucky school with "Dixie" in its name is one of the northern-most schools in the Commonwealth.

10th Region:
15. Clark Co (86.7)
Montgomery Co (79.3)
These two schools are both in the 40th district, so they should be matching up pretty soon.

11th Region:
3. Scott Co (99.5)
7. Madison Cent (92.2)
11. Henry Clay (88.3)
14. Lexington Catholic (86.9)
One of the high points of any KHSAA basketball tournament is reading the accusations of how Team Toyota and Lexington Catholic are cheating.

12th Region:
12. Southwestern (88.0)
E. Jessamine (82.2)
Southwestern High School may have the worst name of any high school in Kentucky. Southwestern isn't a place -- it's a direction.

13th Region:
Clay Co (81.0)
Harlan Co (76.3)
On the other hand, a battle between Clay County and Harlan County would feature two of the best school names in the Commonwealth.

14th Region:
9. Perry Co. Cent (91.2)
Knott Co. Cent (83.4)
I'm not going to believe in Perry County Central until I see them win a game or two in Lexington.

15th Region:
Sheldon Clark (72.1)
Johnson Cent (68.5)
Last year, Shelby Valley won this region after having a losing record in the regular season. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again.

16th Region:
Rowan Co (83.0)
Ashland Blazer (81.1)
It's interesting that Rowan County -- which lost the state title game in double overtime last year -- is back with another strong team, while Christian County (which won that state title game) collapsed to a losing record.

  1. My comment on the 16th region should be disregarded -- the explanation for Rowan County's success is that they have most of their players from last year's team.

  2. Plus, Christian County lost its coach.
